Listening Ear Ministry
In response to the impact of the recession on many people, we are pursuing the vision of establishing a "Listening Ear" ministry and already have a number of enthusiastic people who want to be part of this work.
However, as always, we could do with more willing volunteers so that the responsibility is shared and not too demanding for any of us. If you are someone who already has listening skills or who would be willing to undertake some brief training in that area, or if you are someone who would like to support the work by providing refreshments we would love to hear from you so that we can move forward with the training and then the launch of the ministry as soon as possible. From May 2010, Manchester and Stockport District are seeking to recruit an experienced person to the part-time, office-based post (12 hours per week) of Administrator for the Manchester and Stockport Methodist District.
The person appointed will provide administrative support to the Chair of District, District staff and other District officers. There are more details on the church notice board.
Following a successful pilot, the Methodist Church is now offering free weekly prayer texts to help Methodists join in prayer with hundreds of others on topical and personal issues.
To receive the texts people simply send a text message reading PRAYNOW to 82088, which will be charged at their standard network rate. All of the prayer texts they receive will be free of charge.
